Well, I'll make the decision after I get the code read for sure. I don't mind giving it a try - unless there's a real risk in doing the mod of damaging the CAI and making things worse, I won't feel any remorse in cutting into the CAI just because it's new. Remember, I'm not as worried about having the prettiest engine bay on the block - nobody sees it as I blow by them.

It won't hurt at all... and to me it makes perfect sense... I just don't want you to get your hopes up and have your CEL come back on again like I did. I have brake cleaner to clean your MAF if you want.

I was thinking (which is rare in itself), instead of doing the whole Dremmel thing, is it possible to get a 2.5 inch diameter PVC pipe about 3-4 inches long, cut a hole for the MAF sensor and mount it inside the original CAI? Longer screws can hold the PVC pipe in place and the MAF can still sense the airflow in the now smaller space.

With this and the exhaust to install, it looks like we need a "Catch-up With Keely's Viberant Thing Meet".

I don't think it'll work cuz if you look at that thread the stock airbox has those little lines in it... that probably help to break up the airflow somehow.

Sounds like all of these need someting that causes the venturi effect. Like an old carburator, a reduction in pipe size causes the air to speed up to travel through the narrow space and then slow down again in the wider pipe. It would cause some extra backpressure in the pipe after the filter but before the 2.5" MAFS thing.
Is there anyway to have the little piece that holds the MAFS in the middle of your CAI? You could just splice your CAI, take out 3-4" and use hose clamps to make the old MAFS fit in the middle?
I might be off with this... Or I might be SMRT.. I mean smart.. LOL!

I get the SMRT reference!
Anyway, I'll get my code printout tomorrow from the dealer but it's more complicated than the "engine too lean" code that most people get as a result of CAI installs. Stay tuned...

Let me tell you, if the Viberant Thing was running an OS I would have had it running in ship-shape in no time. All this bloody secret code reading and such is pretty annoying!

Yeah that it is. It is almost like the car companies are keeping something from us. Now why would they do that??
