OK, it's time to look for winter tires. Just wondering what everyone is running. I've been shopping and comparing prices for the following sizes: 215/55R16 or 205/55R16.
- Michelin X-Ice Q-rated - softer side walls, new, replacement for Arctic Alpin - Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2, H-rated - performance, but $$ - Canadian Tire Icetrak (which looks exactly like the old Michelin Arctic Alpins. Also was told that Michelin makes these for CT). Less $$
Can we go down to a 15" rim? If so, what size of tire would you need? 195/65R15?

I'm glad you brought this up Irvin...I'm thinking I should get some winter tires also...those continentals on there now are terrible.
I'd appreciate any advice, since I'm clueless on what kind of tires to get.

I didn't like the blizzacks at all... but I hear they redesigned them...
I plan on getting the Michelin Artic Alpins.
Let me see if I can set up a group buy for us.

Yeah, thanks, Jackie! So far the best prices I've seen are at Canadian Tire with discounts of $50.00 for tires and $5.00 per rim (black steelies).

Irvin, I don't know if this is an option for you... but since you plan on getting new rims next year why not just get winter tires for your OEM rims. I know they will be a little more expensive but what are you going to do with 3 sets of rims? I had that exact problem. I ended up selling my stock rims and now have steelies for the winter but I wish I had kept my stock rims and put snow tires on those. Just a thought.

ya, irvin, just get a set for your oem 16's. would be cheaper than having to get rims, even for 15"

I have Blizzaks and I had no problems with them whatsoever last winter. And I put a lot of km's on them.
Stay away from Canadian Tire winter tires. Absolute garbage.

My blizzacks really only lasted me one winter... after that they had as much traction as a normal all season tire.

Mine seem to have quite a bit of traction left on them considering the miles that I put on them. Maybe you just had a bad set of tires. Who knows.

I'll get pricing for you all on Tuesday....so the general interest is towards Michelin Artic Alpins?
Let me know..try and stick with one brand/style for now.
