Just wanted to ask people if they might be able to recognize this noise. It has been happening occasionaly once in a while since 1500km on my car. Now I'm at 13000km and it is more previlant.
Here is the deal: Only happens when the car is fully warmed up. The ticking sound only happens at lower RPMs. It is NOT in time with the engine. RPMs change and the ticking dosne't follow it exactly, but does change. It does happens whether the car is in gear or nuetral. It is loudest inside the car, not outside. IF it was in time with the engine I would think it was a valve or a lifter having problems.
I'm wondering if it is some sort of emmisions valve or something like that. Any ideas anyone? I would like to have an idea before I take the car in to the dealership. I find if you suggests something that makes sense, you don't get treated like an idiot. I HATE that with a passion.

Yeah I know EXACTLY what it is. If you look above your stock airbox there should be a valve that has some blue on it.....when the car is running it will tick and then stop ticking....then start ticking again. It is the VSV Valve.....nothing is wrong with the car....this is normal.
The only way to quite it is to remove it off of the bracket that it is on and let it either just dangle in the engine bay or take some tie-straps and tie it down to some wiring that is near-by.

What he said. Do you have any intake or still using the stock air box?

I'm not using the stock air box. I changed that about 3 days after buying my car. I have the K&N Typhoon on there. Anyway, I shook that valve thingy yesterday and put it back on the mount that came with the K&N. It didn't tick all day. THen again I did mostly highway driving for a few hours. I will keep a look out for it. When it does it sometime I will pull over and give the valve a wiggle and see if that stops it.
I'll let you know if that was it!

It's normal then :)like Mike said in his thread, it's the vsv value that causing the ticking because you mounted on the metal piece. Zip tie it away from any metal part and you'll be fine .
