well, it has been confirmed this morning. yesterday there was a very bad motor vehicle accident involving a truck and a motorcycle. the guy on the bike collided with a truck who was illegally turning. they say the guy on the bike was speeding (not hard to do with the weather being so nice) and the driver in the truck didn't even see him when he decided to turn. they announced the dead motorcyclist on the tv and radio news as a name familar to our subie club. so i tried calling him to check on him knowing he had a bike or was getting his bike back. we just had a meet on Friday so i usually talk and banter with him online or during the week when he has internet problems or questions (I signed him up a few months ago). but they show the helmet, no pic of him and we post up online to see if he responds or anyone else knows? so yes, this morning it was confirmed, there's the pic of him with his helmet, the same one on the news being showed cleaning up off the street. what a sad day. hpracingwrx

That's really sad Hope It's always awful to hear about someone so young having such a tragic accident. Bikes scare the crap out of me. I'd never own one.

That sucks Hope. Bikes are so dangerous, as was proven by this young man.

My sympathy to his family.
It's one of the reasons I don't want to get a bike.

ya, i had told him not that long ago i was scared of them when he asked me why i don't like bikes. i guess he was going pretty damn fast too, lost control and hit the truck, then the truck ran over him... funeral's tomorrow and we'll be heading over to red robin (his fave food joint) for a meet in memory of him.

It's never good to hear of a fellow motorcyclist getting injured or killed My condolences as well. I myself have been to the scene of an accident involving a motorcyclist and a car (Used to be an Ambulance Dispatcher back in the day... I was along on a "ride-along"). It wasn't pretty, but the person at fault was the car driver. One of the major reasons that bikes are dangerous is that car drivers are quite frequently not paying attention to the things around them. Also, virtually every accident involving a motorcycle is either fatal or ends in serious injury. The vast majority of cyclists (motor and otherwise) are very good at what they do, because they have to be to survive on the roads. There is nothing quite like driving a bike however, I guess that cars, trucks and bikes will have to learn to co-exist on the roads together. Again, my condolences, the biking community always regrets a loss to their family.

yes, it was very sad. we have memorial stickers we're putting on our cars in memory of shawn. he was a great great guy. one of the biggest supporters for the meets and always kept it fun. so we will miss him. he was like the little brother i never had, always finding the weak spot and diving in, givng you a hard time about things, yet making it so funny that you couldn't help but laugh your ass off! not to mention, he could always take a joke and just enjoyed life. he died doing what he loved most: going fast.
