I was just posting on another forum that started this discussion... and I want to know your thoughts... It got me really angry and I need another place to vent... haha...
My opinion is that there are no bad dogs... just bad owners... a breed shouldn't be banned because people have given it a bad reputation...
Discuss.

I agree with you, to a certain degree. There are really bad owners out there that can treat there animals like crap, but the are just animals that are wild and ill-tempered too. It's just like human beings are, we can be raised poorly in a bad neighbourhood, but still turn out fine. But there are some of us, who are just born with an ill-temper. Could be from DNA, anything, and that could just be it for Pit-Bulls too. I think it's wrong to slaughter them all, I would rather see them do something more humane than that.
I treat all animals like I would a human being (well...I baby talk to my dog, I don't expect to baby talk to you guys) but that's just what I think.

I don't own any pets, but I think punish the people/dogs/cats/goldfish that are guilty or are dangerous to the public.
The problem is very much like the tuner culture to some people... hmmm, looks like a street racer, sounds like a street racer, MUST BE a street racer. So everyone gets labelled (sometimes) unfairly.

I almost bought an American Staffordshire Terrier a couple years ago... they are beautiful dogs but since they look almost identical to pit bulls (only a little bigger) they have been classified as a dangerous dog. Most people don't know that AmStaffs are used as theraputic dogs for elderly people and small children. It would really be a shame to have a ban on them because I plan on getting one later on down the road.

Well get what ya want, banning anything these days is gonna be a tough vote. Banning a specific breed of dogs will obviously grab the attention of the humane society and pet owners. It won't necessarily go through, actually, I'm almost positive it won't go through. The only people voting "yes" to banning would be those that have been attacked or those who know someone that have been attacked. Also those that a scared shitless of any dog anyways. ;D
But if you take a look at the general public, A LOT of people own dogs. A few like to own pitbulls and rottwieler (sp?) and those that are classified as aggressive and ill-tempered. It wouldn't approve with the general public.
But then again...a lot of people are narrow minded, they believe what they see on TV. Shows like "When PitBulls Attack" and even the media make these dogs look more aggressive than they seem. Like when I was just glancing at the TV the other day, the news shows a pitbull that was obviously already pissed off. So...if I were un-biased, I would probably look at it as something I wouldn't want in the neighbourhood.
