A while back I decided to paint my engine cover.
Here goes:
I removed the engine cover and gave it a very light sand (coulda been my first mistake).
I then proceeded to paint it. After the paint had dried I noticed it was a little ragged around the edges (no doubt from my light sanding). I then gave it a rub down with steel wool (very fine I might add) and since most of the paint was removed I decided to add a primer (being an industrial painter by trade I should have known to have done this to begin with). As the primer (a vinyl etching primer) came from the gun it cob webbed all throughout the lettering (old stock I assume). Well back to sanding LOL. I proceeded to wet sand all the coating back off to bare plastic. With that done I re primed and lo and behold was still rough around the lettering. Plan B shave off the lettering leaving cut outs where they once were. Not bad can still save it by putting lexan lit with LEDs behind (good save). So with lettering removed I sand back down to bare plastic and apply several coats of chrome paint. Surface was a little rough, no prob a light wipe with some steel wool again and another thin coat and presto looks good. All smooth and shinny, yummy. Now for the top coat a blue anodizing layer. On top of silver that will pop like mad and match the blue Cosmo intake I just installed. The big moment, I shake the dam can for an eternity in anticipation of this hell finally being over. Time to spray, first pass looking good, second pass alright, third pass f_cken drip right in the middle of the cover.
And thats where I am at with it. I really wanna toss the thing as far as I can and then run it over with the forklift all day.
But hey will look cool when done but if charged by the hour this thing would be worth a million bucks LOL.
Thanks for putting up with the rant.
