Hey gang, what can y'all tell me about XM radio. From what I understand it was (and perhaps still is) not available in Canada, but maybe that was only "officially" since satellite signals don't really respect land borders. Any info you can point me to?
TIA!

Ryan from Derdall Designs mentioned something about it to me on the weekend... maybe ask him on Friday?

Not much really. They have just different programming.....to a point. But they are basically the same.

It's sapposed to be commercial free audio by genre I believe with very good quality sound. However there is a monthly or yearly service fee that must be paid to get it sent to you.

I've been listening to a Siriusdemo online and I'm already hooked. Yay, channel 61!!!! Okay, DJ, how does this all get set up? I assume you need a head unit (or a portable thing, not interested in that option), a tuner, and an antenna. Anything else?

You got it. The receiver and antenna are seperate of course. I got mine off of ebay for about $200CDN for both.

a couple of my friends have XM working, one legally (somewhat) the other completely ilegally.
XM is pretty sick imho, comercial free, high quality tunes. but then again, just get an mp3 deck and you can listen to whatever you want 1 CD holds so many songs, or if you have a DVD/mp3 deck you'll have pretty much unlimited supply of music.
I personally just don't like the idea of paying a subscription fee, I think it's a bit lame.

I personally just don't like the idea of paying a subscription fee, I think it's a bit lame. That's a good point, and normally I'm anti-subscription myself. And I do intend to put an MP3 deck (from Dension) in my car as well. However, my musical tastes aren't in the mainstream and I need to get new music from somewhere - my MP3s are limited in the sense that it's all stuff I've heard before, and I get bored (even with 10GB worth). I'm willing to pay to get music tailored to my interests and NO FREAKIN' COMMERCIALS, or meaningless local news, or contests... Sirius offers a lifetime subscription option where you pay a lump sum of approx. $500USD and never pay again. I'm considering that, but I'd have to do the math.

$500 USD? ouch! that's pretty spendy! but we don't have it available here either nor do i think i'd want to pay monthly for it. besides, i don't listen to the radio that much anyways.
