I recently purchased the Clarion N.I.C.E. P200 NAVIGATION IN-CAR ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM.
N.I.C.E. P200
I really didn’t like it mounted to the window as the display was hard to read in bright light and it was too far away to use touch screen and drive.
I remember seeing a post by Reggae-TRIX where he mounted his Tom Tom on the vent above the head unit. Upon closer inspection I noticed that the base was glued to the louvers of the vents and thus a permanent thing. I wanted something that would be reversible and would go back to stock when I desired it.
After pulling off the panel I noticed that the vent and louvers were in one unit and proceeded to take it apart.
I found that it was made up of three pieces the housing, the louvers and retaining ring. By the way if someone takes theirs apart be careful as there is a little spring and ball in there so don’t loose it. My idea was to replace the louver assembly with a piece of nylon round stock to which I could mount my Nav to.
The piece that I made fits in the round housing tight and doesn’t interfere with the mesh in the back of the housing. I stuffed the nylon “puck” into the housing and replaced the retaining ring and screwed the whole assembly into the dash panel and walla a mount for my nav. This mount is completely reversible and the stock louvers can be replaced at any time as no mods were made to the actual vent pieces. I drilled a few extra holes in the nylon for the wires and all the wires go through the mount and into the dash.. For astetics I added some carbon fiber vinyl to the front of it.
This helps cut down the glare from the sun and places it within fingers reach of the steering wheel without blocking view of road or other dash components.
I will post some pics of in car later when I get dressed LOL.
