oh bummer. ok, but that makes sense. so i'll see about picking up a new power pack. that may do the trick.

picked up a new power pack the other day but no time to test out my theory. however i'm thinking i may do a direct power connection from the battery to the pc tied to a switch on the console. the PC is set to boot up when it detects power. if so then perhaps the direct connect will alleviate this power issue when starting the car....
also, i want to separate out the 2 12 volt splitters that are currently tied to the one switch for power on and off. i think that's relatively easy since i have the second switch in place but nothing tied to it. just need to cut the cable to separate power/control over both 12 volt splitters and piggy back the power and ground.... if you could see what i'm talking about you would know what i mean.

The direct connection might work from the battery.....I am just not sure how much power your computer consumes. If it does not consume much then during crank it might still stay on. Another reason the other battery would work is because then that way you do not get any power fluctuations in the power going to the computer, which could cause a lot more harm such as short circuits or power surges that take out the power convertor in the computer itself because if you had the second battery you could isolate it with a power switch of some sort and shut the power off going to it from the main battery while you are starting your car, thus eliminating any chance of a power surge and your computer will stay on too. And you do not have to necessarily buy an Optima battery either. There are other batteries that are smaller that are made specifically for those hwo have lots of electronics in there cars. It is about the size of a motorcylce battery, and it is a lot easier to hide. But right now I can not remember the name of it.

Well when you are doing something that not a lot of people have experience in doing, it is hard to find good info to draw off of to get things done quickly and properly.
