I was told that to have an aftermarket headunit put in the Vibe that I would need some sort of security wiring harness that would cost approx $100. Apparently it's so that it doesn't cause check engine lights and other electronic/security problems. I believe I had only 1 reply on Genvibe saying it's not needed because it's a Toyota deck and not GM. Does it matter whether it's a US or Canadian Vibe? For anyone with an aftermarket HU did you just by the mounting kit and regular wiring harness? Thanks for your replies!

I just used a regular mounting kit and a GM harness. I have an '03 Matrix, and they came with a Pontiac CD player. Whomever is telling you that you have to pay $100 for a special harness is full of s**t.

what year do you have? it may be different with the new decks as i believe they are set up by the VIN for the car.

I am guessing then that you will probably have to get that $100 harness. And the other thing too is the stock deck will have to be hidden somewhere in the car on the other end of the harness. That SUCKS.

do you have the 6 disc in dash or the single disc? i had the 6 disc and ended up replacing all speakers, amps and adding a monster sub. that way it "looked" factory (less issues with break ins) but it ROCKED!

I have the single disk HU. I already replaced the 4 speakers and that made a huge improvement. I was also thinking about the security factor and might just add the sub and be done with it. I would think I'd be fine running the door speakers off the deck and not need another amp for them. I don't play my music that loud but like it to sound good. do you have the 6 disc in dash or the single disc? i had the 6 disc and ended up replacing all speakers, amps and adding a monster sub. that way it "looked" factory (less issues with break ins) but it ROCKED!

You can get away with running the door speakers off the deck. And if you get an aftermarket deck, it will be that much better.

i recommend adding an amp to run the doors. that's what i did. it greatly improved the sound even more.

Oh yes! The best way to go is have an amp for the doors and an amp for the subs. But if you can not afford it, the deck will have to do!
